Commonly used tool material is divided into: tool steel(including carbon tool steel, alloy tool steel, high-speed steel, carbide), super hard tool materials (including ceramics, diamond and cubic boron nitride and so on)



1,high speed steel, high speed steel is particularly suitable for the manufacture of complex shaped cutter, hole processing tool, such as various types of milling cuttersbroach, gear cutting tools, thread cutting tools; because of the high hardness, wear resistance, heat resistance than the hard alloy tools, it is only suitable formanufacturing, low speed cutting.


According to theproperties of high speed steel is divided into two categories: ordinary high speed steel and high speed steel.


2, carbide hard alloy used in a large number ofgood rigidity, high speed cutting tool blade shape simple,with the progress of technology, the complex cutting toolhas gradually expanded its application. Tungsten cobalthard alloy is composed of WC and Co sintering,codenamed YG, generally applicable to the processing of cast iron and non-ferrous metals and other brittle materials. Tungsten cobalt hard alloy with WC as matrix,adding TiC, using Co as binder, sintering, codenamed YT,generally applicable to high speed machining of steel material. Add tantalum (NB) hard alloy is adding a small amount of other carbides in the above two kinds of hardness in alloys (such as TaC or NbC) for a class ofcarbide derived, codenamed YW, both for the machining of brittle materials, and is suitable for processing plastic materials. Common brands YW1, YW2.


3, coated tool material kentanium or HSS Tool by chemical or physical methods on the surface coated with a layer of abrasion resistance of refractory metal compounds, which canimprove the wear resistance of cutting tool materials,without reducing the toughness. There are two ways ofcoated tool: chemical vapor deposition method (CVD method), suitable for hard alloy cutter; physical vapor deposition method (PVD method), suitable for high speedsteel cutter. Coating materials can be divided into TiCcoating, TiN coating, TiC coating, Al2O3 coating and TiN.
